Mo Events Monthly: Mereba, Kindred, Anderson .Paak, Bebel Gilberto + more live soul

Mereba opens for J.I.D. June 19 + 20 at Center Stage.

Check out our picks (below) for Atlanta’s best music-centric happenings for the month of June:

Philip Bailey
We all know Philip Bailey as the falsetto-slinging member of the legendary funk/soul group Earth, Wind and Fire, but the iconic singer is also a solo legend in his own right. Just check his catalog, and you’ll see he’s responsible for recording a bevy of classic cuts (“I Know,” “Children of the Ghetto” and “Easy Lover,” anyone?), along with his new project, “Love Will Find a Way.” And on this night, you get a chance to experience Bailey on stage on his own — which is an ultra-rare occurrence, so whatever you do, don’t sleep on this show. June 3. $45.25-$60.25. City Winery, 650 North Avenue, Ponce City Market. citywinery.com/atlanta.

Kindred The Family Soul
If you’re even a casual fan of contemporary soul music, chances are you’re familiar with the work of the long-running husband and wife duo Kindred the Family Soul. They first made waves in 2003 when their debut (and possibly most beloved) single, “Far Away,” dropped in 2003. Since that time, the pair — Aja Graydon and Fatin Dantzler — have been involved in a host of dope projects, including their lauded conversation and performance series “Kindred Presents.” Celebrate more than a decade of great music when they take the spotlight at St. James Live tonight. June 13. $25-$99. 8 p.m. St. James Live, 3220 Butner Road, Suite 240. stjamesliveatl.com.

Father’s Day Jazz Brunch, Featuring Paula Champion
Dads in the ATL are getting an extra-special celebration for this year’s Father’s Day when gospel/jazz-centric soul vocalist Paula Champion takes the stage. Champion is a vocal powerhouse who has served as both a background singer (for artists like Angie Stone) and as a solo performer, competing on TV shows like BET’s “Sunday Best” and singing on her solo EP, “My World.” Consequently, snagging tickets to witness her belting out choice cover tunes, as well as some original cuts, will surely put you in Pop’s good graces. Trust us. June 16. $49.50. 12 p.m. City Winery, 650 North Avenue, Ponce City Market. citywinery.com/atlanta.
