Introducing: Slo*Mo Radio — The Soul of the ATL

For decades, Atlanta has served as the home base for some of the world’s most acclaimed soul music artists — folks like India.Arie, Janelle Monáe, Van Hunt, Anthony David, Avery*Sunshine, Joi, Donnie and many, many more — and now, at last, there’s a radio station dedicated to the incredible music they create. Slo*Mo Radio (slomo3prod.wpengine.com/radio) is a curated, web-based broadcast experience, featuring hand-selected sounds (no algorithms here, folks) crafted by ATL-based, ATL-centric and ATL-affiliated soul vocalists, musicians and producers.

When you visit Slo*Mo Radio (slomo3prod.wpengine.com/radio), expect to hear a steady stream of tracks representing the past, present and future of the city’s rich and divergent soul community — everything from classic soul to smoothed out R&B, soulful house, funk, jazz, Afrobeat and more — 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

Slo*Mo Radio is the latest product from the Atlanta-based media collective Slo*Mo Media. Slo*Mo Media founders Larmarrous Shirley (Creative Director/Co-Publisher) and Carlton Hargro (Editor in Chief/Co-Publisher) serve as the station’s Co-Programming Directors and Chante LaGon (Content Director) is the “Voice” of Slo*Mo Radio, lending her talents to a variety of on-air spots.

About Slo*Mo Media

Founded in 2013, Slo*Mo Media is a multiplatform collective dedicated to shining a light on Atlanta’s soul music and culture community. Via print publications, digital products, live events and more, Slo*Mo’s mission is to guide consumers to ATL-based sights, sounds, personalities and experiences that go well beyond what folks may hear on the radio and/or see on TV.

The folks behind Slo*Mo:

Larmarrous Shirley, Creative Director/Co-Publisher: Larmarrous Shirley has worked his way up in the ranks of the publishing industry since 1996, serving in design capacities at publications like “Atlanta Magazine,” “Atlanta Style & Design” and many more — snagging numerous national design awards along the way. In addition, he’s made a name for himself as a go-to DJ and producer, putting in work with a slew of national, international and Grammy-winning artists.

Carlton Hargro, Editor in Chief/Co-Publisher: For more than 20 years, Carlton Hargro has worked as an editor for a variety of local and national magazines, newspapers and websites. He served stints as the first African-American editor in chief of the alternative newsweekly “Creative Loafing” in and Atlanta and in Charlotte, N.C., where he helped the paper garner a number of awards from the North Carolina Press Association and the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies.

Chante LaGon, Content Director: With more than 20 years of experience in all things word-related — from copy editing to MCing to writing books — it’s hard to pin down Chante LaGon’s primary area of expertise. She’s worked at Atlanta media outlets like the “Atlanta Journal Constitution” and “Creative Loafing,” where in her eight years there she held various positions, including managing editor and special projects director (marketing). She also served on the board of Eyedrum Art & Music Gallery for eight years and hosted “Air Loaf” (a weekly arts and entertainment segment) on WMLB-AM (1690) for four years.
